In this lab, you sign up for the Google Cloud free trial and create a project used to complete the labs. Be aware that you need a credit card in order to register for the trial. This is to confirm your identity.

You will also install some prerequisites on your system and make sure you can create virtual machines.

In this lab, you register for the Google Cloud free trial and you create a project. The free trial provides you:

When you sign up for the free trial, you are asked to provide your credit card information. This information is used only to verify your identity and let us know you're not a robot. Your credit card is not charged during or after your free trial unless you upgrade to a paid account.

Start building your app with the same technology that is used to power Google, YouTube, and many of the world's largest brands.

To register for the free trial:

Open the free trial registration page.

If you do not have a Gmail account, follow the steps to create one. Otherwise, login and proceed to the next step.

Step 3

Complete the registration form.

Step 4

Read and agree to the terms of service.

Step 5

Click Accept and start free trial.

You create your first project using the Google Cloud Console. The project is used to complete all of the labs in this course.

To create a project:

In the Google Cloud Console, click Select a project > Create a project.

In the ‘New Project' dialog:

In the upper-right corner of the console, a button will appear asking you to upgrade your account. Click Upgrade when you see it. If the Upgrade button does not appear, you may skip this step. If the button appears later, click it when it does.

When you upgrade your account, you immediately have access to standard service quotas, which are higher than those available on the free trial.

Step 4

On the GCP Console, use the left-hand side menu to navigate to Compute Engine and ensure that there are no errors.

At the end of this course, you may delete this project and close your billing account if desired.
